The league was launched in May of 2012. Garena introduced their Garena Premier League (GPL) that is a 6-month professional league for online gamers with over 100 matches scheduled being played. The inaugural season of GPL is an League of Legends competition which is comprised of six professional teams. The teams are made up of the top players of their countries. GPL games and commentary can be streamed on the internet. Watchers can access them on the GPL website. In the month of January, Garena declared they would be launching Garena Premier League's second season began on January 4, 2013. Garena Premier League, 2013 will have two teams that hail from Taiwan & Vietnam. The total of eight teams has been up to nine. These teams include AHQ, Saigon Fantastic Five, Bangkok Titans, Kuala Lumpur Hunters, Manila Eagles, Saigon Jokers, Taipei Assassins and Singapore Sentinels. In November 2014, the Garena E-Sports Stadium, which is a dedicated venue for esports began operations within Neihu District, Taipei. This studio was partly built in order to host games from the League of Legends Masters Series which is the top-of-the-line LoL Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau league that was a spin-off from GPL. Garena established with the Iron Solari League in January 2015. The Iron Solari League is the League of Legends women's tournament that is held on the Philippines. The event takes place in the second month of every month. It aims to encourage participation from groups that are underrepresented and is accessible to those who self-identify as female. Garena is not only a tournament organizer but also other offline events and social events that enable users to interact.
