Catherine Ford, born in Bloomsbury (London) She was raised by the mother, grandmother, and her godparents. Her father abandoned her family. As a child Ford was afflicted with anxiety due to an obsessional-compulsive disorder. Ford began acting during her teens and became part of the National Youth Theatre. She had been accepted to Sylvia Young Theatre School. After a couple of days, she realized that this school wasn't right for her. Ford decided to apply for the Central School of Speech and Drama, finally winning a place on her fourth application. Shaun Dingwall would play Pete Tyler as a regular character on Doctor Who. Ford did not finish her studies until 1993. But, by 1991, Ford had made her debut on television in an episode of Surgical Spirit. At that time, Ford adopted the stage name Catherine Tate. Tate began her TV debut in the year 1991, appearing on shows like The Bill. Men Behaving Badly. and London's Burning. The regular theatre work she performed led her to join the Royal Shakespeare Company, for the 2000-2001 Season. However, Tate soon began to garner notice for her stand-up comedy, which she added to her repertoire in 1996.
